Find Your Escape And Tell No One

Wekiwa Springs State Park

It’s all about me!

When I first heard a girlfriend utter these words, all I could think of was, “How incredibly selfish of her”. But in hindsight, I realize she had a point.

There are times when we should do something for ourselves. We all need some alone time….some “me” time. We need to recharge without outside influence from anyone.

So I visited a state park by myself this past Saturday. I spent 6 hours hiking and biking the trails, and had a wonderful picnic lunch overlooking a spring. The weather was perfect…and I ran into only 3 other hikers and 1 biker the entire time.

I found a youth camp with several cabins and a swimming pool. The camp is closed for the season so there wasn’t another soul in site! After a 4-hour hike, I took a dip in the pool, then sat on the porch of one of the cabins overlooking the lake.

I sat in Yoga Lotus position, cleared my mind, and concentrated on my breath. When I opened my eyes I had a view of the woods surrounding a lake. I sat quietly and allowed my mind to simply wander for an entire hour!!

I reflected on the person I was several years ago, the person I am today, and the person I want to be. I thought about the places I’d like to visit next year, and the things I’d like to accomplish in the next 5 years. I thought about my business and how I could grow it.

It was the most refreshing thing I’ve done in a long time. I got home late in the afternoon, took a long shower and chilled with a book and a cup of tea. I went to bed feeling more fulfilled and peaceful then I have in a long time.

I’ve decided this is going to be my escape, when the world gets crazy and I need to recharge. This is going to be my special place that I share with no one else. That’s right, it will be my sanctuary when I need it.

Give it a try, I highly recommend finding a place to escape to, and then not sharing it with anyone. Keeping it all to yourself…can you do it?
